May Real Estate Update for the Okangan Valley

NOTEWORTHY....
I think it is worth mentioning, that in spite of the tax credit coming to an end on April 30th, the real estate market has not come to a screeching halt! I have had two buyers that I have been working with for a while now, and both qualified for the tax credit. While we searched and searched for the right home in hopes of meeting the deadline, we were just not finding the right properties. Realizing that we were better off to find the "right deal", rather than "a deal", we removed the deadline from our consideration. Ironically, within a week of the tax credit ending, we were able to get both buyers under contract with newly listed homes. Not only did each buyer ultimately get a better deal financially, they are buying homes that are all around more suited to their needs. So, congratulations to both!

FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOURS...
I got this recipe from my mother-in-law years ago, and make it quite a bit this time of year! With Memorial Day coming up, I thought you might like to try it too.
Calico Beans
1 lb. burger – cooked and drained
½ lb. bacon cut into small pieces – fried and drained
½ cup chopped onion (cooked with burger)
½ cup catsup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. mustard
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 large can pork & beans
1 15 oz. can baby limas (or other white bean)
1 15 oz. can kidney beans
Dash of liquid smoke
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes, or crockpot 1-2 hours.
PEARLS OF WISDOM...
It is better to light a candle, than to curse the darkness. Eleanor Roosevelt
